Sydney Sweeney is a Republican and Why You Should Care

Everything I know about celebrities has been against my will. I never search for anything celebrity related, but somehow it pops up, because every news feed has decided that the people just need to know. No. Please. We really don’t. Unfortunately, because I have made the decision to know what’s going on in the world, splashed between headlines about ongoing wars and political standoffs, my eyeballs were splashed with the fact that Sydney Sweeney is a republican.

Truth be told, I had to look up how to spell her name to write this article – that’s how little I cared or wanted to care about this little bit of trivia. But I got to thinking. I certainly don’t care about this, but why does every news outlet want me to care? Is it to detract from the always bigger events, like the war in Ukraine, or the Epstein files, or the massive layoffs affecting actual people that I do know and care about?

So then I started to care. Not about the fact that she’s a republican, but about the implications of this being newsworthy. Again. This is absolutely not newsworthy. But here we are. Our political system is so divided that a celebrity’s political affiliation even elicits a response by the sitting president of the United States of America. Every action screams more division, almost as if it’s done on purpose maybe? Every repeated headline seems to want to divert our attention to nonsensical trivia that impacts absolutely nothing? It’s like a fart in the wind that would’ve gone unnoticed, but people willingly decided to sniff it and get outraged that somebody farted. If you’re one of those who are willingly sniffing farts, then by all means, you do you. But please stop telling everybody about it as if it matters. It doesn’t.
